Strawberry Picking Labour Weekend 24th October 2010

We went strawberry picking today @ Julian's Berry Farm, Whakatane.  We meaning, Scott, Sam, Callie and me, plus the Millard Family, Martin, Rachel, Sam, Joe and Jess. Our good friends and neighbours, who are also of the pommie kind.

So, we have an early morning start planned, so as soon as we get there we can start picking those juicy strawberries.......NOT!!  Pulls up to the entrance and we all get out the car(s), and the first thing out of all the adults mouths was "COFFEE"!  Not a bad thing, actually as Callie decided it was time for morning tea and one thing you don't do, is forget to feed Callie.  80(

Coffee all round and drinks for the kids. They were all chuffed because there was a huge playground, so they were entertained while Callie stuffed her face....

So, after a cup of coffee and a play we decided that we should get to work picking strawberries. Armed with empty containers and empty tummies, we headed off to plot 4. This was Sam's and Callie's first time picking fruit.  Callie hadn't even tasted a strawberry before.  It didn't take long for Scott's container to get full, even on the "one for the pot and one for the tummy" rule.  Sam took a little longer, making sure that each berry that went into his container was perfect for eating. Even though he didn't eat any of them in the end...

Oi Mum look, this ones shaped  like a bum!

So, after waiting very patiently in her pram, watching everyone else eating these strange red things, Callie is finally introduced to her first strawberry.  Dad, of course, needs to make sure that he finds the biggest one in the field! She isn't too sure at first what to expect, but all that changes, very quickly..

It won't all fit in!!!!
After a hard day working in the strawberry fields (forever).....sorry had to get the Beatles song in......we went for a hard earned coffee and a freshly made mixed berry ice cream.  We headed back home and with the fridge packed full to the brim with strawberries, we fired up the barbie and opened the beer and wine and enjoyed a good night with good friends.

Love the Breens xox

p.s. cant show you a picture of the strawberries, they didn't last long enough!
