Strawberry Picking Labour Weekend 24th October 2010

We went strawberry picking today @ Julian's Berry Farm, Whakatane.  We meaning, Scott, Sam, Callie and me, plus the Millard Family, Martin, Rachel, Sam, Joe and Jess. Our good friends and neighbours, who are also of the pommie kind.

So, we have an early morning start planned, so as soon as we get there we can start picking those juicy strawberries.......NOT!!  Pulls up to the entrance and we all get out the car(s), and the first thing out of all the adults mouths was "COFFEE"!  Not a bad thing, actually as Callie decided it was time for morning tea and one thing you don't do, is forget to feed Callie.  80(

Coffee all round and drinks for the kids. They were all chuffed because there was a huge playground, so they were entertained while Callie stuffed her face....

MmmmmVegimite butties

Its thirsty work........

So, after a cup of coffee and a play we decided that we should get to work picking strawberries. Armed with empty containers and empty tummies, we headed off to plot 4. This was Sam's and Callie's first time picking fruit.  Callie hadn't even tasted a strawberry before.  It didn't take long for Scott's container to get full, even on the "one for the pot and one for the tummy" rule.  Sam took a little longer, making sure that each berry that went into his container was perfect for eating. Even though he didn't eat any of them in the end...

Oi Mum look, this ones shaped  like a bum!

So, after waiting very patiently in her pram, watching everyone else eating these strange red things, Callie is finally introduced to her first strawberry.  Dad, of course, needs to make sure that he finds the biggest one in the field! She isn't too sure at first what to expect, but all that changes, very quickly..

It won't all fit in!!!!
After a hard day working in the strawberry fields (forever).....sorry had to get the Beatles song in......we went for a hard earned coffee and a freshly made mixed berry ice cream.  We headed back home and with the fridge packed full to the brim with strawberries, we fired up the barbie and opened the beer and wine and enjoyed a good night with good friends.

Love the Breens xox

p.s. cant show you a picture of the strawberries, they didn't last long enough!

Breast Cancer Walk 2010

This is the first year I have done this walk and I only have one word to say "amazing".  Everybody was there! Old, young, mums, daughters, grandchildren, dogs and even the men got in on the action.  The total number of people entered this year was 5000, which is a fantastic turn out.  The walk took place in Tauranga CBD on 20th October.

We had a Zumba warm up first, which was taken by our local Zumba instructor, Lucy.  We had a great time, it was even better, as we already knew the dance moves.

Me, Jackie (background, having pants trouble) Denise and Rachel

Over 5000 turned out for the event

Even Callie had a little try on of the outfit I wore for the event....must admit I think she looks so much better in it.

It was an awesome experience and it made it even better sharing it with awesome friends!

Tirau

We decided to vist a little place called Tirau. Its is in South Waikato and has a population of about 800, info off Tirau Information site, I am not that clever.

Tirau is known for its unusal art work, that can be found throughout the town. Everything is made from Corrogated Iron and it actually looks amazing.  The information centre, is a corrogated iron dog, as you will see from the photos.

As I said, its not a very big place, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in personality!

Callies 1st Birthday

Well it has arrived and quickly too.  Yes our little girl is 1 today.  We didnt really have much planned for today, as Callie wouldn't really know what was going on.  So one big pressie, a huge bow and we had one content girl.

Sam chose a banana cake for Callie. It had a big number 1 candle, which we lit and sang happy birthday to her.  She wasnt really sure what was going on, but as soon as she seen the flame her eyes lit up! She wasnt very impressed when she was told that she couldnt have it though.... Sam helped her to blow the candle out, which was nice, and then they both had a slice for breakfast.

Say "cheeeeese"

Callie with her Birthday present...Rrrrrrr
